This is me today

This is my life story told through my embroidery.

My life begins

I was born in 1940. I was weak and my father was strong. I felt like I had no parents. I was placed in a foster home when I was only two years old. It was a dark beginning.

I was helpless and unwanted and thrown out in the yard. I was afraid of everything. I escaped on my mother's bicycle to my grandparent's home. My grandfather bought me a record player with American music and the sun began to shine on my life again.

School Days

I loved my first grade teacher. She made a big difference in how I felt about school. We became life long friends and she even came from Sweden to visit me in New York. My third grade teacher was a real bitch and should probably have chosen a different career. I became interested in sports and became the district champion in track and field.

My grandfather waved good by as I immigrated to the USA in 1957. The ship was called Kungsholm and was very glamorous. See some of my memories of New York City.

Life as a model in NYC

I worked as a runway model for Saks Fifth Avenue. I love New York City. It is one of my favorite places in the world. I still visit whenever I have the chance.

Taking Care

I returned to Sweden to take care of my foster mother and "father". My father is weak and I am strong. I loved my foster mother dearly. She died of cancer and I was her only child.

From NYC to farm life in Sweden

My granddaughter is such a joy. She loves to read and ice skate and dance. She is smart and talented. We love to bake princess cakes together. She brings me so much pleasure. I love her.

Everything has its time

Through hope, faith and charity my dark beginning turned into a life full of love.

My story is not complete. I have three children, Anne-Marie, Mark and Michael. I will be telling more stories about them and their families through my embroidery. They are a very important part of this story and I love to visit and spend time with them when I am in the U.S.A.
